Description: Built in 1856 for Dr. Charles R. Dickinson, EASTERN VIEW occupies an elevated setting in the Green Springs National Historic Landmark District minutes east of Charlottesville and UVA. Dr. Dickinson lived in the home and conducted the Green Springs Academy school of classical studies for many decades. The apogee of Classic Greek Revival, EASTERN VIEW’s weatherboard siding capped with a metal hip roof has undergone extensive renovation under the guidance of the National Park Service. The three bay façade introduces a “T” plan with one of the most elegant entry halls to be found in Historic Green Springs. Tall ceilings, beautiful heart pine floors, and six fireplaces (with chimneys clustered near the core of the structure) are some of the original elements complemented by, among others, the modern conveniences of radiant under-floor heating and beautiful new kitchen. Since the 18th century Historic Green Springs has been noted for its fertile farmland and EASTERN VIEW is no exception today. With nearly 150 acres in pasture and high-yielding hay ground, the farm is a model of productivity. There are springs, streams and a private, large lake. The farm is improved with a 12 stall center-aisle stable with hay, shavings and equipment storage and a groom’s apartment. Here, too, is a 72’X176’ covered riding arena with Euro-felt all-weather footing.
